Clinical Palpation Procedure
Clinical palpation involves using the hands to assess anatomical structures for abnormalities in texture, temperature, tenderness, or movement. The procedure includes: - Preparation: Wash hands, warm them, and explain the process to the patient.
- Positioning: Ensure the patient is comfortable and the area is exposed.
- Technique: Use fingertips for texture, dorsal hand for temperature, and apply light to deep pressure based on depth of tissue.
- Assessment: Compare both sides of the body to detect asymmetries, tenderness, or structural changes.
- Documentation: Record findings such as location, consistency, and patient response.
