Testimonials
Let's check out what we can achieve and what professionals think about us.
Palpation of the upper quadrant refers to the manual examination of anatomical structures in the upper part of the body, including the neck, shoulders, upper thoracic spine, and surrounding musculature. Clinicians use this technique to assess tissue texture, locate tender points, identify muscle tightness, and detect abnormalities such as swelling or trigger points. It's a vital part of physical assessments in physiotherapy, osteopathy, and manual therapy to help diagnose conditions related to pain, dysfunction, or injury.
During an upper quadrant palpation, a clinician will gently press and feel specific areas such as the cervical spine, trapezius, scapular region, and upper ribs. You may be asked to sit or lie down, and the practitioner will use their hands to evaluate muscle tone, joint position, and soft tissue response. You might feel mild pressure or discomfort, especially if an area is inflamed or tender, but the process is generally not painful. The information gathered helps guide diagnosis and treatment planning.
